I use HIPAA-compliant Secure Messaging to protect your privacy.

I use Secure Messaging to send you messages and documents confidentially.

Secure Messaging requires you to actively verify your identity before you can access or send a message.

If you send me a Secure Message, only you and I will be able to see it. You will not be able to forward the message.

My Secure Messaging is exactly like systems used major financial institutions and health organizations — companies bound by laws to maintain the privacy of your information.

SENDING AND PICKING UP MESSAGES

To send a Secure Message:  Log in to the Secure Messaging Portal using your registered email address.  Beware: You will have a maximum of 20 minutes to compose and send a message. The system will time out if you take longer and you'll lose what you typed! So this doesn't happen, first type your message in a text document, then copy and paste it into a message.

To retrieve a Secure Message:  If you are notified that you have a Secure Message click on the link in the notification. Enter your password to view the message and reply to it.

Attaching files to a Secure Message:  Secure Messaging allows you to attach (upload) documents into a message you send. It also allows you to open and view documents that I send you in messages.

SECURE MESSAGING FAQs

Q: Why do you use Secure Messaging?  I take extra care to safeguard your privacy, including by keeping a safe space for online communication. Secure Messaging uses the highest levels of encryption, and it tracks and securely archives every message sent and received.

Q: How does Secure Messaging protect privacy?  Secure Messaging requires you to actively verify your identity before you can retrieve or send a message. Only you and I will be able to see messages we send one another. No one else will be able to intercept them, modify them or spoof them.

Q: Can I email you directly to the address of the notification message?  No. The address will contain the phrase "do not reply."  Replies to the notification will be sent without being encrypted. Your message could be immediately broadcasted worldwide and read by many unintended recipients.

Q: Can't I just sign a waiver so I can use standard email?  No. The promise of confidentiality is central to therapy. Even with your consent I would not be comfortable emailing you. Email does not ensure the privacy of our communication.
